Dogging Course Licence

Undertaking and successfully completing this course will provide students with the unit of competency:

• CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging

This course covers what is required to perform slinging techniques, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear and/or the directing of the crane operator in the movement of the load when the load is out of view of the crane/ operator for licensing purposes. This course covers the scope of work to demonstrate competency in the application of slinging techniques, selection and inspection of lifting gear and/or the directing of the crane/ operator in the movement of the load.

A high-risk work licence for dogging (class DG) is required by anyone who applies slinging techniques to a load, which includes:

• calculating the safe angle for sling or chain
• selecting the type of sling or chain to be used
• selecting the correct method to secure the load
• selecting the safe method to lift or turn the load
• checking the conditions of lifting gear for wear and tear.
• A DG licence is also required by anyone directing the operator of a crane or hoist in the movement of a load when the load is out of the view of the operator.

With successful completion of the mandatory assessment applicants will be issued with an Assessment Summary (AS1) and Statement of Attainment (SOA) for this Unit of Competency.

This training is conducted at the clients’ premises utilizing the client’s resources. Prior to any agreement to deliver the training, OHSA will determine whether the client has the required resources for the training and assessment in accordance with our required resources list.

• WHS legislation, risks and hazards
• General inspection and preparation of work site requirements
• Handle and use dogging tools
• Plan and prepare job
• Select and inspect equipment
• Prepare site and equipment
• Perform tasks including slinging and shifting loads
• Dismantle and inspect load shifting equipment
• Clean up including tools maintenance and storage

Any High Risk Work Licence assessment can only be undertaken at the age of 18 years or over, however students can undertake training if they are 17. Applicants will also require a basic knowledge and understanding of the English language.

Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn by all students undertaking this course. This includes steel cap boots, long pants, long sleeves, (high vis shirt if possible, otherwise long sleeves with a high vis vest) and a safety hard hat.

For dogging, rigging & scaffolding courses, students are required to bring gloves and safety glasses.

OHSA will provide the general training equipment as well as notes, logbook and training plans, calculators and pens.

Where applicable, logbooks recording high risk work hours under supervision will be provided.

Students must also bring with them Photo ID i.e. Queensland or Interstate Driver’s Licence or Passport

Upon successfully completing this course, applicants will receive an Assessment Summary (AS1) from the accredited Assessor and a Statement of Attainment from OHSA. Applicants need to complete the online application for a new Queensland HRW Licence on the Worksafe QLD website. This must be done within 60 days of successfully completing the practical assessment. The application fee ($94.70 as of 1 January 2019) is payable at the time of your application.

Students should retain their AS1 and proof of payment as evidence that they can lawfully perform work in the relevant class of High Risk, pending a decision on your application.
